About Me

Hometown: Orem, Utah, United States
I'm on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Japan. I have the most awesome sister in the world, (Chelsea) who helps my mom blog for me. I love it here in Japan and am so grateful for the chance I have to share the gospel and the blessings it brings with the Japanese people.

Letter 10/27/2008
"I'm really loving it here so much. My testimony has been strengthened beyond measure. Every time I turn to Heavenly Father for comfort in my times of need, He encirlces me with His love and I just feel overwhelming peace. This Gospel has changed my life. I used to think that money, a nice house and a nice car would be what made life enjoyable, but that wasn't even close! I'm willing to give everything I have to the Lord because He has helped me find where true happiness is, lasting happieness, and that has changed the way I feel, the way I think, and the way I look at life. I can't remember who said it at conference but the words keep echoing in my mind. "He doesn't ask us to die a martyr's death, but to live a disciple's life." The gospel is true! I want to get on the top of a mountain and shout it, "THE GOSPEL IS TRUE!" Everyone is in my prayers and thank you so much for your prayers...I can feel them. Each time someone says "We're praying for you..." I think "I know, I can feel it." Thanks for all the mail. Keep it coming. Until next week..."Elder Jansson

THE CALL

Ky knew where he was going before he even opened the envelope!

August 19, 2008

And he's off...

Here is the post from Chelsea's blog when Ky left for Japan:

We got to talk to my bother, Ky, during his layover at LAX yesterday. He should now be settling in at his new home in Fukuoka, Japan. (The picture is the LDS Fukuoka Temple.) For my non-Mormon friends, my brother will spend the next 2 years proselytizing to the people in Japan about the Mormon gospel. He sounded so excited to be finally going, after spending 3 months preparing at the "Missionary Training Center" in Provo, Utah. This will be such an amazing experience for him, and we are very proud and excited for him.

In even more surprising news–my mom seems to be doing okay! Ky is a major mama's boy (I now understand that relationship much better, since my baby is also a boy!) and I thought she would die sending him off for 2 years, but she is so proud of him and is holding it together really well. So, kudos to my mom for keeping it together!

Ky gets to email home once a week, and call home on Christmas and Mother's Day, but that is it! We really enjoy his emails, and the kids have been good about drawing pictures for him almost every week. So keep him in your thoughts and prayers, I'm sure he will be in for an adjustment. Actually, the Japanese members will probably be in for an adjustment as well, I'm sure Ky will stand out in the crown–I think he is 6'4"!

THE HOUSE OF THE LORD

"The temple has quickly become my favorite place on the planet! It seems like no matter what is on your mind or how your day has been up to that point, as soon as you walk through the temple doors, Satan has no power over you. My mind is just at such peace and it is beautiful...and in the Celestial Room, the Spirit just testifies to me that I am doing the right thing. I can't get enough of it! I wish we could visit the temple more often."

WHAT IS IT LIKE AT THE MTC?

This is where Ky spends about 10 hours a day. I think their bums must be numb!

Ky's desk in his room, with lots of pictures of friends and family back home.
Now that is a COMFY looking bed...not!
